About Point and Pivot Counseling ServicesA Black Female Anxiety Therapist in New Jersey Who Gets It
Anxiety has roots.
Especially for Black women.
I help you understand those roots so you can handle hard
conversations, triggers, and relationship stress
without shutting down or going off.
What I Know About Us
Helping Black Women Heal the Patterns Anxiety Creates
My mission comes from understanding how anxiety really shows up for Black women. Not just as worry, but as shutting down, withdrawing, overfunctioning, people-pleasing, staying quiet, or snapping when you’re overwhelmed. These reactions aren’t flaws; they’re survival habits you learned long before adulthood.
I’m here to help you understand what’s underneath those patterns and give you space to respond instead of react. My goal is to create a culturally grounded space where you don’t have to hold it all in. A place where you can learn new ways of showing up without shutting down, exploding, or abandoning yourself.
What I Know for SureI’m Chrystal Dunkers, LPC
My Flavor of Anxiety Is Shutdown and Withdrawal
I’ll be honest. My anxiety never showed up as pacing or panic or anger. It showed up as going quiet, disappearing into my thoughts, and shutting down when I felt overwhelmed. So when you tell me you “need a minute,” or you freeze up in conflict, or you get quiet because you’re trying not to say the wrong thing… I get it. I’ve lived that version of anxiety too.
We’ll Understand the Pattern and Then Work on What to Do Next
I’m more interested in how your anxiety actually shows up day-to-day: the silence, the overthinking, the irritation that surprises even you, or the way you manage everyone else’s emotions while ignoring your own. And together, we’ll build practical tools so you can handle those moments without shutting down, crashing out or letting anxiety run the show.
You Don’t Have to Clean Up Your Story for Me
You don’t have to translate your childhood, minimize your reactions, or pretend things don’t bother you. I understand the roles, expectations, and family dynamics that shape how Black women move through relationships. This is a space where you can talk the way you talk, feel what you feel, and actually get support that makes sense for your life.
Don’t just take my word for it…..

When you're ready to get realLet’s Talk About What’s Actually Going On
You’re not reaching out because things are “fine.” You’re reaching out because the shutdowns, the blowups, the silence, and the tension are exhausting.
Let’s look at what’s behind all of that and figure out how you can move through those moments with less stress and more control.
