Individual Therapy for Women Who Are Tired of Repeating the Same Patterns
Therapy doesn't have to be limited to one problem or diagnosis. We can work on the anxiety, difficult family relationships, people-pleasing, emotional reactions, self-doubt, and other patterns that are making your life and relationships harder than they need to be.
Relatable + Real
Real talk on WURD Radio: I joined other Black health and wellness leaders to talk about how stress, self-sacrifice, and emotional wellness affect our lives and relationships.
Let’s Call This What It IsThe Quiet Moments.
The Big Reactions.
The Overload.
Maybe some of this feels familiar:
You shut down when a conversation gets too intense too fast.
You go off after staying quiet about what bothered you.
You get quiet, but your mind is loud and spinning.
You replay the same conversations over and over.
You feel misunderstood, even by people who love you.
You take responsibility for everyone else's emotions, then feel resentful and drained.
You withdraw when you don’t feel supported or heard.
You get irritated fast, then feel guilty afterward.
You manage everyone else's needs while putting your own further down the list.
The pattern may look different depending on the situation.
But somehow, you keep ending up in the same place.
Why This Happens
You didn't wake up one day and decide to shut down, overthink, or go off.
There’s usually a pattern behind it.
The way you respond to conflict, disappointment, criticism, or feeling misunderstood didn't develop in a vacuum. Family relationships, expectations, and experiences can shape what you learned to do when things got uncomfortable.
Go quiet.
Pull back.
Overthink.
React big.
Try to control the situation before it gets worse.
Maybe staying quiet kept an argument from escalating. Maybe being the responsible one earned approval. Maybe anticipating everyone else's reactions helped you avoid conflict. Or maybe you learned that expressing what you really thought came with consequences.
Those responses may have made sense at one point in your life.
The problem is when they keep showing up in relationships where you want to respond differently.
What Individual Therapy for Women Looks Like at Point and Pivot
Starting therapy shouldn’t feel like sitting down every week and wondering what you’re supposed to talk about. I keep our work focused and transparent, so you understand what we’re working on and why.
We’ll identify the patterns creating problems in your life and relationships, understand what keeps them going, and work on practical ways to respond differently.
-
Schedule Your First Session
Reserve your appointment through my secure online scheduler. We’ll start by talking about what’s been happening, what isn’t working, and what you want to be different. You’ll also get a clear sense of how I work and what our sessions will look like.
-
The Intake Session
Our first full session gives us a chance to look at the bigger picture. We’ll talk about the patterns you’ve noticed, when they tend to show up, what triggers them, and how they’re affecting your relationships and everyday life. From there, we’ll identify what you want to work on and where we should begin.
-
Ongoing Sessions
This is where we get to work. We’ll look more closely at the situations that trigger old patterns and practice different ways of responding. Inside and outside of sessions, you’ll build skills for communicating more directly, managing strong reactions, setting boundaries, and making choices that better reflect what you actually want.
-
When It’s Time to Wrap Up
Therapy isn't meant to continue forever. As you make progress, we’ll review what has changed, what you’re doing differently, and what still needs attention. When you're ready to end therapy, you'll leave with a better understanding of your patterns and strategies you can continue using on your own.
Patterns I Help Black Women Work Through
Strong Emotional Reactions
Maybe you stay quiet until you can’t anymore. You snap, shut down, withdraw, or react more strongly than you intended. We look at what tends to happen before those reactions, what keeps the pattern going, and how to respond differently without ignoring what you actually think or feel.
Relationships & People-Pleasing
If you’re constantly overthinking relationships, putting everyone else’s needs before your own, or struggling to set boundaries without guilt, we look at what keeps those patterns going and how to speak up, make decisions, and navigate relationships without automatically putting yourself last.
Family Dynamics & Boundaries
The roles you learned in your family can follow you into adulthood. Being the responsible one, keeping the peace, avoiding conflict, or feeling responsible for how everyone else feels. We’ll look at how those family patterns developed, where they’re still showing up, and how to relate to family without automatically falling back into the same role.
Anxiety & Emotional Overwhelm
When your mind won’t slow down, you replay conversations, second-guess yourself, or feel overwhelmed by things other people seem to brush off, we’ll look at what keeps the anxiety going and work on ways to respond without getting pulled into the same overthinking and worry loops.
LET'S DO THINGS DIFFERENTLYThings Change When You Decide They Will
You can honor where you come from without letting it define where you’re going.
Understanding the pattern is one thing. Changing how you participate in it is another.
Therapy gives us a place to work on that.
I provide virtual individual therapy for Black women throughout New Jersey, including Newark, Jersey City, Montclair, New Brunswick, and surrounding communities.
Because sessions are online, you can meet with me from anywhere in New Jersey. Our work can focus on family dynamics, difficult relationship patterns, people-pleasing, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, strong reactions, and the patterns you’re ready to change.
